Obesity

Weight gain and obesity is usually a multi-factorial issue. There are usually a few things in play. Many people would tell you to move more and eat less. This method, called the calorie in, calorie out (CICO) method on the surface may seem correct but the body and obesity are much more complex. Usually, hormonal regulation has become an issue and must be addressed if weight loss is to be effective and long lasting. You will not fix this issue without learning more about your body, food and how they interact.

Possibly the most important concept we teach patients is the Move More, Eat Less message is not exactly correct, especially long term. All calories are NOT created equal. What we are putting in our mouths is actually more important than how much. In fact, WHAT you are putting in your mouth can greatly effect how much you may need to put in your mouth.

While some people do need to address excessive calorie consumption and lack of activity, the most common mistakes we see are food choices! As for exercise, being fit or unfit has huge health implications. Exercise is important for fitness but it is NOT an effective weight loss mechanism. You read that correctly, exercise in and of itself is not a major driver of weight loss. It is important for health but your food choices are more important to weight loss. There is more BAD and misguided information being shared with the public than good or accurate information. These courses will enlighten you to much of the “misinformation” and provide you with a much better understanding of how to lose weight and maintain it life long.

These courses are designed to help you understand hormonal issues that are in play, as well as give you things you can do to address these issues. Diet and lifestyle modifications can help restore and maintain healthy weight. In addition to hormones, stress and sleep issues are other issues that can hamper weight loss. We will teach you how to limit the negative impact stress can have on our health.
